How Is it made?
The waste coconut water leftover after harvesting the white flesh from inside the mature coconuts is rescued. It is sterilised creating an energy rich, entirely natural nutrient upon which a bacteria culture can feed.
Fermentation takes place over 12-14 days, and at the end a sheet of cellulose jelly is produced. This is harvested and refined, then enriched with natural fibres, gums and resins to create a more durable and flexible material which then forms flat sheets. It is moulded, and naturally dyed if desired, then left to air-dry. The material softens whilst applying a gentle water-resistant treatment (without adding any plastic coatings or synthetic ingredient.

Because of my entirely natural composition I am sensitive to humidity, much like paper or leather. To keep me looking my Best, please apply a thin layer of polishing wax (either a clear shoe polish or a furniture grade wax) or coconut oil to my surface to keep me moisturised. Especially during hot, dry weather or after cleaning.
