Start Your Day With A Power Hour – When You’re Not A Morning Person.

What do you do for the first hour of your day? All the experts say that to be at your most productive you need to get up and get at it at early o’clock. Well, we don’t believe that here at Breathe, after all, we all work on different levels so whilst 5.30am starts may work for some, for others it’s absolute torture.

But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get yourself a morning routine that will help us kick start the day, get plenty done and feel good at the end of it too.

The thing is, if we are honest with ourselves, most of us are stuck in the same habit when we wake in the morning. Our phones get picked up and we start scrolling, emails, social media, online banking  – it’s a habit that most of us with smartphones are trapped in.

These may seem like harmless actions but by wasting this time, we are not making the most of the first hour of our day – which whatever time you wake up, could be the most powerful hour.

Power hour actions can be anything that suits your lifestyle but you may want to consider:

  • Meditating
  • Reading
  • Journaling
  • Writing
  • Doing yoga
  • Exercising
  • Enjoying a cup of coffee whilst you indulge in a mindfulness session

By doing something that will get your started and make you feel good, your entire day will be changed. You’ll feel more mindful, have tons more energy and find yourself being more productive and focused.

How to create your powerful first hour

So the key to creating your powerful first hour is to figure out what it is that could start your day off the best way. You may find you want to mix it up a little for example 30 minutes doing your morning pages and the next 30 minutes doing a yoga session.

You could also…

  • Try meditation or reflection
  • Decide what your most important task is the night before and get up and get it done.
  • Do something that requires concentration; reading, creating or studying.
  • Do something physical, like running, walking the dog or yoga

The thing about making your first hour, your power hour is that nothing is set in stone, you can mix things around to find what suits you or change it from week to week. The main thing is that you’re giving yourself an extra hour in the morning so think about what you’d spend that doing and what a difference it’ll make to the rest of your day.

Already rushed in the mornings so no time for a power hour?

Some of us have more hectic morning routines that others, but the change has to come from you, you need to commit to going to bed a little earlier and setting that alarm an hour earlier if you want to benefit from the change. However, if you have that hour extra just think how chilled the rest of your day will be?

Doing something useful in your first hour doesn’t have to be a big thing. It could even be enjoying a cup of coffee in silence or finding a healthy recipe to try for dinner.

No one can design your perfect morning for you, we are all different and we operate on different styles and rhythms. So enjoy the experience and enjoy the experiment of finding the perfect morning routine.
